How It All Began

Our Story

Alexandra and Ben met in May 2019 while living in Boston. They quickly bonded over an appreciation of the simple things like kale salads, loving siblings, and big hugs.

Their early days of dating involved evening tennis matches, runs on the Esplanade, daytrips to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and frozen margaritas at Felipe's in Harvard Square.

Seven years later their love story has unfolded over many chapters—new jobs, grad school, new friends, hobbies, challenges, successes and disappointments. They've moved cities, states and countries including stints in Fort Lauderdale, Seattle, Palo Alto, Amsterdam and for the last three years San Francisco.

They are blessed to start their next chapter as husband and wife surrounded by loving families and the truest of friends.

Our Destination

Why We Love Oaxaca

🌴 Relaxed Vibe

The city of Oaxaca is a small, historic, easily walkable destination known for its cobblestone streets, beautifully preserved Spanish colonial architecture and colorful buildings. It's welcoming to visitors since English is widely spoken in hotels, restaurants and shops.

🎉 Festive Energy

It won't take long to notice Oaxaca's festive energy. The vibrantly colored buildings, frequent parades and street dancing are hard to miss. Who knows, you might just find yourself in a calenda—a festive street procession held for weddings!

🍫 Culinary Capital

Oaxaca is widely considered the culinary capital of Mexico. Chefs from around the world travel here to learn, train, and draw inspiration. Famous dishes include Mole, tlayudas, spiced Oaxacan hot chocolate, and chapulines.

🥃 Heart of Mezcal

Oaxaca produces the majority of Mexico's mezcal and is widely considered the spiritual home of the drink. Many of the country's most respected mezcaleros and traditional palenques are located in and around Oaxaca.

💀 Día de los Muertos

People travel from all over the world to experience Día de los Muertos in Oaxaca. The observances blend Indigenous Zapotec customs with Catholic influences. Much of the artwork will still be on display for guests to experience.

☀️ Ideal Weather

The weather in November is nearly perfect with high temps ranging from 70-80 degrees and minimum chance of precipitation.

Getting There

Travel Information

✈️ Getting In

We recommend flying into Oaxaca International Airport (OAX) which is located approximately 20 minutes from the wedding location and downtown Oaxaca. There are direct flights from Houston, Dallas, and Los Angeles, as well as frequent connecting flights via Mexico City—a short 1-hour hop.

🚗 Getting Downtown

We recommend taking an official Airport Taxi to your hotel (20-min drive, fixed rate $30 USD). Uber is quite limited in Oaxaca, so the official Airport Taxi is your best bet.

When you pass through customs after picking up your luggage you'll see a taxi booth. You line up there to book either a private taxi ($30 USD) or your seat on a shared shuttle bus into Oaxaca city center ($15 USD). These cannot be booked in advance.

📝 Booking Flights Early

November is the high season in Oaxaca. Please make your arrangements as soon as possible for the best rates and availability. Roundtrip tickets from BOS to OAX are approximately $500-600.

Other Great Options

Once the Quinta Real sells out, we recommend Hotel Los Amantes, Hotel de la Parra, Hotel Sin Nombre, or Gran Fiesta Americana. All hotels and Airbnbs in the center are great options.
